Movement of Democracy Questions ELSTAT's Unemployment Figures
Share on:

The Movement of Democracy has raised concerns regarding the reliability of unemployment figures published by ELSTAT (Hellenic Statistical Authority). In a statement, the movement calls for immediate and transparent answers regarding the "unusual fluctuations" observed in the data.

The Movement of Democracy questions the discrepancies between ELSTAT and OAED (Public Employment Service) figures, especially during the New Democracy government, despite Minister Chatzidakis' efforts to reduce unemployment numbers through various measures.

Furthermore, the movement inquires about the duration for which the data was distorted or inadequate, who knew about it, and who benefited from the misrepresented picture. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of truth in statistics for policy-making and public trust.

ELSTAT has suspended the publication of unemployment data for June due to the unusual fluctuations and has initiated a re-evaluation of its methodology.
