KKE: Revoke the penalty imposed on soldier Manos Papageorgiou

The KKE (Communist Party of Greece) demands the revocation of the penalty imposed on soldier Manos Papageorgiou for expressing his support for farmers. In a statement, the KKE's Department of the Central Committee for the Armed Forces and Security Forces condemns the 25-day imprisonment imposed on the soldier, who serves in the 4th ETEΘ in Samos.
The KKE emphasizes that this action constitutes an escalation of repression and an attempt to intimidate soldiers who support the struggles of farmers, workers, and students. It calls on mass organizations to support the soldiers and not allow their intimidation.
The KKE states that the New Democracy government is mistaken if it thinks it will intimidate soldiers with "military regulations of junta origin." It demands that any penalty or transfer of a soldier standing by the struggling people be canceled, and that M. Papageorgiou remain in his unit.
Furthermore, the KKE points out that the policies of the EU, NATO, and the system lead farmers to roadblocks and officers to struggle. It calls on the government to satisfy the demands of the Armed Forces personnel and not send them on "peacekeeping missions."
