Colombia: Former Porn Actor Appointed Minister of Equality

A former porn actor has been appointed as the Minister of Equality in Colombia, a controversial choice by the leftist government of President Gustavo Petro.

Juan Carlos Flórez, who has admitted to previously offering sexual services and creating pornographic content, was appointed to the Ministry of Equality, which was created in 2023 to guarantee access to social programs for vulnerable groups, according to a government official.

Gustavo Petro presented the new minister as a "porn actor" who collaborated with him when he was mayor of Bogotá and had created a "sex workers' union" in France.

Juan Carlos Flórez stated that he has more than 20 years of professional experience in various international cooperation organizations and has held public office. He also argued that sex work is a job like any other.
