Cyprus: Urgent Need for Political and Defense Readiness

Cyprus is in a geopolitically unstable region, facing challenges from the war in Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and Turkey's revisionist policies. In this context, the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus is inadequate, particularly regarding civil protection and crisis management.
Fires: The lack of organized fire zones and shelters makes communities vulnerable. It is proposed to create fire zones, construct shelters, and use surveillance drones.
Shelters: There is no national planning for shelters, leaving the population unprotected in the event of a war or terrorist attack. It is proposed to create mandatory shelters per community, renovate existing infrastructure, and develop a digital map of shelters.
National Readiness: Educating the population in basic survival skills is essential. It is proposed to provide annual training in survival skills, shooting and firefighting courses, and establish local crisis support teams.
Readiness is a matter of survival and requires immediate action by authorities and citizens.
