K.Hatzigiannis: EU Must Maintain Consistent Stance Against Authoritarian Regimes

The Vice-President of the OSCE PA, Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, stressed the need for unity and decisiveness from the EU against authoritarian regimes during a meeting of the General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.
Mr. Hatzigiannis emphasized that the EU must demonstrate collective determination against Russian aggression, invest in its defense and security, and maintain a consistent stance against authoritarian and revisionist regimes. He also stated that adopting selective approaches undermines the credibility of the international community.
The Cypriot MP noted that the spread of misinformation and fake news endangers free and fair elections, while in the Western Balkans, foreign influence is linked to destabilization efforts.
On the sidelines of the meeting, an event was held at the initiative of Mr. Hatzigiannis and Mr. Andreas Ignatiou, on the topic of strengthening cooperation between Parliaments and Governments of Southeast Europe.
