The appearance of a Greek F-16Viper pilot in Paphos, wearing the Cypriot flag on his left arm, caused surprise. During a briefing with President Christodoulides, it was noted that the pilot wore the flag of the Republic of Cyprus along with other insignia.

Sources from the Air Force stated that the presence of the Cypriot flag on the sleeves of the F-16 pilots in Paphos symbolizes their mission and their presence in Cyprus. The Hellenic Air Force operators operate from a Cypriot base to support and provide air defense for the Republic of Cyprus.

This particular insignia reflects the connection with the deployment area and the mission they are carrying out, without implying a change of status or subordination to the Cypriot National Guard. It functions as an operational and symbolic sign of cooperation between Greece and Cyprus. Their presence in Paphos constitutes Greek assistance to Cyprus during a period of tension, making the Cypriot flag perfectly suited to this message.
