Cyprus Revokes Citizenship from 150 Individuals

The Cypriot Council of Ministers has approved the revocation of Cypriot citizenship from 28 individuals who had been naturalized through the Cyprus Investment Programme. This decision adds to previous ones, bringing the total number of people who have lost their citizenship to 150 (41 investors and 109 family members) since the Christodoulides government took office in March 2023.
Furthermore, a Decree of Deprivation of Citizenship was issued for 69 individuals, while the deprivation process was completed for 15 individuals. In total, since 2021, citizenships have been revoked from 360 individuals (101 investors and 259 family members), with the process completed for 112.
The government emphasizes that this process is part of a broader strategy to enhance transparency, combat corruption, and restore the reputation of the Republic of Cyprus. Changes to the legislation for the Population Archive are being promoted, in line with the recommendations of the European Commission.
The announcement concludes that this is a significant reform that enhances the country's transparency and credibility.
