Cyprus Issue: Olguin Contacts and Consultations for New EU Envoy

According to reports, Nikos Christodoulides is seeking a new meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman, aiming to promote Confidence Building Measures and discuss the future of the Cyprus issue process. An invitation has been sent through Menelaos Menelaou, but there has been no response yet.
If it takes place, the meeting is expected to be hosted by Hashim Djae in the Dead Zone. María Ángela Holguín, the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General, contacted Nikos Christodoulides by telephone after his meeting with António Guterres.
Meanwhile, the European Union has begun consultations for the appointment of a new envoy, following the resignation of Johannes Hahn.
Nikos Christodoulides also discussed with Hashim Djae the role of UNFICYP and violations in the Dead Zone and Varosha.
The government expressed annoyance at the Turkish Cypriot leader's statements regarding Cyprus' accession to NATO and the British Bases.
