Cyprus Issue: Stalemate Ahead of Trilateral Meeting and 'Elections'

The Cyprus issue is at a standstill, with the pseudo-state seeking inaction until the trilateral meeting of leaders with the UN Secretary-General in September. Reportedly, the occupied side appears reluctant to hold meetings and make progress until the illegal 'elections'.

Despite discussions on Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), there is stagnation due to Ersin Tatar's stance. No meeting has taken place after the informal five-party meeting in New York, and no meeting is scheduled within August.

The Greek Cypriot side is seeking a meeting, but it is estimated that the pseudo-state will either avoid it or agree to a formal meeting without any real intention of progress.

The upcoming meeting between Nikos Christodoulides and Ersin Tatar with Antonio Guterres in September is expected to assess the progress of the discussions and prepare the ground for the next five-party meeting after the 'elections'.

It is estimated that Ersin Tatar is focused on the 'elections' and may use the trilateral meeting as a 'pre-election' event. At the same time, the gap remains on the issue of roadblocks and the photovoltaic park in the dead zone.
