The Cyprus issue appears to be regaining momentum after years of stagnation. The first meeting between President Nikos Christodoulides and Tufan Erhürman has laid the groundwork for the resumption of substantive negotiations.

In a positive climate, the two leaders agreed to meet jointly with María Ángela Holguín during her visit to Cyprus in early December. Negotiators have already started working.

The next steps include an expanded meeting before the end of the year and the start of the Cypriot Presidency. Holguín will also visit Greece and Turkey, and European Union envoy Johannes Hahn will visit Cyprus.

Furthermore, the two leaders agreed to maintain continuous telephone communication. The meeting included a joint statement from the United Nations, emphasizing the positive climate and the opening of communication channels.

Tufan Erhürman presented a package of ten proposals, including granting Cypriot citizenship to children from mixed marriages, as well as issues concerning trade through the Green Line and the creation of a communication channel between the National Guard and the occupation army.
