Government Responds to AKEL with Reference to Mari Tragedy

The Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, Viktoras Papadopoulos, responded to AKEL's criticism with an indirect reference to the Mari tragedy.

"The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, representative of the Government that became identified in the public consciousness with the stigma of devaluing any sense of political responsibility, even after independent investigations, for tragedies that remain fresh in the memory of our people, is rushing to compete with DISY and ELAM in populism," Viktoras Papadopoulos stated.

"We leave them to the judgment of the people and remain committed to addressing the consequences caused by the fire," he added.

"The Government has proven that it responds to every invitation from Parliament for scrutiny and is not afraid of accountability. The leadership of AKEL is the last one that can give lessons in political integrity," he concluded.
