Letymbiotis: Decisions on foot-and-mouth disease must comply with EU protocols

Government Spokesman Mr. Letymbiotis stressed that any decision taken regarding foot-and-mouth disease must comply with the protocols of the European Union.
Speaking on "First Update", Mr. Letymbiotis stated that there has been no preventive vaccination for foot-and-mouth disease without a case being present. He pointed out that all prescribed procedures and protocols followed in other countries have been observed.
Commenting on the possibility of deviating from European regulations, the government spokesman warned that this could lead to restrictions for Cyprus or even its exclusion from the single European market.
Mr. Letymbiotis stated that the Republic of Cyprus informed the European Commission about the cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the occupied territories and is considering the possibility of preventive vaccination, having requested the descent of experts to Cyprus.
