Nicosia Reports Turkish Violations to the UN

The Republic of Cyprus has reported a series of violations by Turkey to the UN Secretary-General, in a letter circulated as a Security Council document (S/2026/240).
The letter from the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN details violations of national airspace, international air traffic regulations within the Nicosia FIR, and Cypriot territorial waters during January–February 2026.
A total of 305 aerial and 33 naval violations were recorded. Of the aerial violations, 81 were carried out by Turkish military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and 44 by Turkish armed military fighter aircraft. Turkey also conducted unauthorized military exercises, issuing four illegal NOTAMs.
At sea, violations of territorial waters were recorded by Turkish warships and auxiliary vessels, including the «KARATAS», «KILIÇ», «YILDIZ», «GİRESUN», «TUFAN», «KALKAN» and «KDZ EREGLI», which illegally used the ports of Famagusta and Kyrenia.
Nicosia links these violations to the actions of the Turkish occupying forces and the reinforcement of military infrastructure in the occupied territories, stressing that they undermine the security of Cypriots and hinder negotiations for a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.
The Republic of Cyprus reaffirms its support for a just solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation.
