Marinakis: Proposal to abolish anonymity on the internet

The Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and government spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis, proposed the abolition of anonymity on the internet during the Athens Alitheia Forum.
Mr. Marinakis stated that his proposal does not concern the free expression of opinion or criticism, but the tackling of criminal offenses committed under anonymity.
"Let's take off the masks from the internet," he characteristically stated, explaining that platforms should know the identity of users, without necessarily publishing their personal data.
Mr. Marinakis argued that anonymity on the internet is often used for criminal activities, such as phishing and fraud.
