Mitsotakis: Activation of EU Mutual Assistance Clause due to Energy Crisis

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, arriving at the European Council Summit in Brussels, stressed the need for institutional activation of the EU's mutual assistance clause (Article 42, paragraph 7) due to the energy crisis and geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that Greece supported Cyprus and called for a roadmap to transform the informal activation of Article 42.7 into a institutionally solid option.
He also referred to the economic and energy consequences of the crisis, warning of potential increases in energy prices and the need to protect European consumers and businesses.
Finally, he stressed that Europe should not face a new refugee crisis and must protect its external borders.
