N. Christodoulides: Time for Decisions at EU Summit

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated upon arriving at the EU Summit that it is time for decisions on all issues, with Ukraine being the dominant one. He expressed hope for unity and emphasized Cyprus' readiness to assume the EU Presidency.
The main goals of the Cypriot Presidency are to strengthen the EU's strategic autonomy, to approach the Middle East, and to address challenges such as housing and energy costs.
President Christodoulides stressed the need for financial support to Ukraine, ensuring that aid is not used in countries occupying European territory or threatening member states. He also welcomed the conclusions on enlargement and the appointment of Mr. Hahn.
Regarding Turkey, he emphasized the importance of references to the solution basis of the Cyprus issue and the resolutions on Famagusta. In addition, he welcomed the reference to Cyprus' progress on joining Schengen and increased returns of migrants.
Referring to sanctions, he stressed the need for them to be effective and to address countries that violate them. He reiterated that enlargement is a priority of the Cypriot Presidency and that there must be substantial progress, especially for Montenegro and Moldova.
Finally, regarding the farmers' protests, he stated that the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) should support the primary sector and agricultural policy.
