OAY President Reassures on GESY's Financial Sustainability

The President of the Health Insurance Organisation (OAY), Stavros Michael, assured that the financial sustainability of the General Healthcare System (GESY) is not at risk. The statements were made after a meeting with the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, in Nicosia.
Mr. Michael emphasized that GESY has a "very good reserve", higher than international recommendations, dismissing concerns that are sometimes expressed. At the same time, he stressed the need for continuous monitoring and timely intervention, emphasizing "qualitative sustainability" through addressing abuses, integrating innovative medicines, and rationalizing prices.
For his part, Mr. Stefanou agreed that there is no issue of sustainability, but stressed the need for rational resource management and well-planned design for upgrading GESY.
