Defense Minister Honors 31st Commando Squadron's 61st Anniversary

A ceremony commemorating the 61st anniversary of the founding of the 31st Commando Squadron was held at the Soleas High School in Evrychou, with the presence of Defense Minister Vassilis Palmas.

Mr. Palmas praised the Unit's long-standing contribution to the defense and security of the country, highlighting the heroism and self-sacrifice of the commandos. He emphasized the importance of military readiness and historical memory, while paying tribute to the fallen.

The 31st Commando Squadron was founded in 1964 and played a decisive role in all national struggles, especially during the Turkish invasion of 1974.

The Defense Minister also referred to the Squadron's involvement in the coup, as well as the subsequent heroic action of the commandos during the Turkish invasion.

Today, the National Guard has taken on a new, upgraded role, and efforts are being made to modernize it and strengthen its deterrent power.
