OAY and AKEL Discuss Abuses and Strengthening of GESY

A meeting between the Health Insurance Organisation (OAY) and AKEL took place on Monday, focusing on abuses within the General Healthcare System (GESY) and the need to further strengthen the system.

The President of OAY, Stavros Michael, announced measures to enhance controls, including the use of specialized data analytics software and the strengthening of on-site inspections.

The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, expressed the party's support for GESY, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive capacity plan and health map, as well as concerns regarding the aggressive acquisitions of private hospitals by foreign investment schemes.

Mr. Stefanou warned of the risk of creating a dominant position in the market, which could distort the single-payer nature of the system.
