Criminal Lawyers React to Mobile Phone Confiscation During Interrogation

The scientific association "Oi Poinikologoi" (The Criminal Lawyers) has expressed strong opposition to the Supreme Court's decision regarding the mandatory surrender of mobile phones upon entering interrogation offices, even by defense attorneys.
According to representatives of the Association, this measure, announced via a press release on August 7, 2025, lacks legal basis and raises questions about its purpose. In their statement, they emphasize that the decision "directly undermines the institutional role of the lawyer in criminal proceedings," implying that lawyers may violate the confidentiality of the interrogation.
The criminal lawyers also highlight the practical problems that arise, as the lengthy interrogation process requires the lawyer to be able to communicate directly with their professional duties. They reaffirm their position in favor of protecting the confidentiality of the interrogation process and condemn any leakage of case file material.
The Association calls for the immediate withdrawal of the press release, arguing that it causes confusion and harms all those who contribute to the administration of justice.
