Tatars' Downcast Face: Analysis of the New York Meetings

Following the meetings in New York, an evaluation of the objectives of both sides in the Cyprus issue is presented. The goal of the Greek Cypriot side was either to start negotiations for the resolution of the Cyprus problem or to assign responsibilities.
The Turkish side seeks to upgrade the pseudo-state, with the ultimate goal of Turkish control over Cyprus. According to the columnist, the Bizonality, Bicommunity Federation (BBF) is not an obstacle to Turkish objectives.
The columnist states that President Christodoulides, by insisting on starting the dialogue, may be abandoning the essence of the Greek Cypriot side's goals, such as the promotion of human rights and the independence of Cyprus.
Regarding the benefits for the Turkish Cypriot side, it is mentioned that they can set any goal without cost and have the pseudo-state recognized as the decision-maker in the Cyprus issue.
Criticism is also noted regarding the discussion on Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), as it is considered that the victim (the Greek Cypriot side) is being asked to take measures to regain the trust of the Turkish Cypriots.
Finally, it is mentioned that the Presidency of the Republic is fostering leaks to the press regarding Tatar's attitude and the duration of Fidan's conversation with Christodoulides, which is described as unserious.
