Olga Kefalogianni: Reactions to the co-custody amendment

A recent amendment concerning the review of court decisions on the parental care of minors has provoked strong reactions. The amendment, incorporated into a bill of the Ministry of Rural Development, has caused controversy at the political, social, and legal levels.
Many describe this amendment as a 'photographic' one, arguing that it is related to the judicial dispute of the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, with her ex-husband, Minos Matsas, regarding the custody of their twin children. The couple is separated and in a legal battle, with the main point of disagreement being the settlement of custody.
The amendment allows for the review of parental care decisions without waiting for the appeal to be heard at second instance. According to reports, Olga Kefalogianni made immediate use of the amendment, arguing that the living conditions of the children have changed.
Minos Matsas sent an out-of-court notice to Olga Kefalogianni, expressing his opposition and questioning the ethical and political dimension of the case. The Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, in his statements supported the amendment, stressing that it is guided by the best interests of the child.
