Following reactions to a series of "pre-election decisions" by the "government," and after Ersin Tatar's intervention with "Prime Minister" Ünal Üstel, 2500 taxi "licenses" have been frozen.

According to Vatan, the Turkish Cypriot leader asked Mr. Üstel to freeze the licenses, a request that was accepted. The "Minister of Transport," Erhan Arıklı, announced the freezing, not the cancellation, of the decision.

Kıbrıs Postası reports that Ünal Üstel's plan was to grant these licenses gradually and controlled after the "presidential elections," but Tatar's intervention overturned the process.

The newspaper reports that the "licensing council" that granted the taxi "licenses" has not yet convened to revoke them.

The chairman of the RTP and candidate for the "presidential elections," Tufan Erhürman, commented that Mr. Tatar feared the electoral repercussions. The chairman of the KL, Kudret Özersay, stated that the 75-day period for the annulment of illegal acts constitutes a "very serious impasse."
