Afzal Khan Resigns After Visit to Occupied Territories

British MP Afzal Khan has resigned from his position as Trade Envoy to Turkey following strong reactions regarding his visit to the occupied territories. The resignation comes after diplomatic actions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus.
Khan had been received by Ersin Tatar and was awarded an honorary doctorate at the illegal American University of Kyrenia. The visit provoked a reaction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which stressed that there is no room for tolerance of such actions.
British government sources said that the resignation was inevitable due to pressure on the British Prime Minister. The President of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK, Christos Karaolis, welcomed the resignation.
Ersin Tatar expressed displeasure at the resignation, speaking of a "tyrannical Greek Cypriot mentality."
