The Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, announced that municipalities will receive additional funding in 2026. According to his post, the increase in resources will be within the limits allowed by fiscal conditions.

Referring to the meeting with the Board of Directors of KEDE, the minister emphasized that from 2019 to date, the budget of the municipalities has increased by approximately 1 billion euros. For 2025, municipalities will receive an additional 100 million euros, while a new increase of 80 million euros is expected for 2026.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance will promote legislative regulation for the allocation of 60% of the revenues from the use of coastal areas directly to the municipalities. Also, a bill is expected soon for the implementation of the National Development Program (EPA).

Kyriakos Pierrakakis stressed that the fiscal margins are specific, as the spending rule strictly defines the amount and type of permitted expenditures, with the aim of maintaining fiscal balance.
