POED Suspends Strike After Parliament's Initiative for Meetings

The Executive Administrative Council of POED has decided to suspend the teachers' strike, following a meeting on Thursday. This decision comes as a 'gesture of goodwill,' after the Parliament's Education Committee initiated meetings with stakeholders.

POED will meet with the Education Committee early next week to present its disagreements with the Ministry of Education. The organization acknowledges convergences on some issues but seeks further agreements. One of the main points of contention is the role of the Director, for which POED requests legislative clarification.

The suspension decision is temporary. POED warns that it will hold a protest outside Parliament if the final draft to be voted on is not in line with its positions. OELMEK is also expected to meet within the day to examine the new data.

The Minister of Education, Athina Michaelidou, stated that Europe is asking for immediate implementation of the plan and that the five-year transition period will begin with training. She also stressed that the new positions will be included in the budget of 2027 and beyond.
