POED: Open Issues in Education and Staffing Pending

The President of POED, Myria Vasiliou, in statements to CNA, referred to the open issues in education and the pending issues regarding the staffing of schools. She pointed out that a meeting will be held next Monday with the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Athena Michaelidou, on the issue of evaluation.

Ms. Vasiliou expressed hope that by the end of August, the pending staffing issues will be reduced and awaits the staffing process of the Optional All-Day Schools in September. POED monitors the procedures and intervenes with suggestions where necessary.

Regarding the new staffing practice with temporary teachers, Ms. Vasiliou stated that issues are identified that confirm POED's initial concerns, as the process "manages education officials as numbers." She emphasized the need to increase permanent organic positions and reduce the positions of temporary teachers.

POED has submitted its concerns to the Ministry of Education regarding the staffing of Optional All-Day Schools, highlighting the reduced interest from teachers due to part-time contracts and reduced pay. The Organization proposes full-time contracts for the substantial connection of the morning with the afternoon school.

Ms. Vasiliou also referred to the need to maintain the lists of eligible candidates after 2027 and the need to improve the New Appointment System, which, she said, victimizes teachers.
