EU Presidency and Reshuffle: Challenges and Prospects for Cyprus

The recent partial reshuffle of the Christodoulides government comes shortly before taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU (1/1/2026). The EU Presidency is a serious matter for Cyprus, requiring months of preparation and a deep understanding of the EU's challenges.
The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry will chair three important Councils of Ministers of the EU, managing critical issues of energy, industry, competitiveness and international trade relations.
Cyprus' first presidency in 2012 was considered successful, achieving significant decisions on the Single Market, industrial policy and the Unitary Patent. The Cypriot presidency was recognized for its effective management and organization of the Council.
Cyprus can contribute to a more social, green and peaceful Europe, gaining credibility and prestige through hard work. Everything is judged by the result.
The former Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry states that the first presidency set the bar high and wishes the new government success.
