Public Service Commission Concerned About Evaluation System in Public Sector

The Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Giorgos Papageorgiou, expressed concern regarding the implementation of the evaluation system in the Public Sector. At a press conference, he stated that most Ministries and Services are implementing the new system with deviations and in many cases violating it.
According to the data, the average grade of civil servants in 2024 was 9.01/10, compared to 8.74 in 2023. Services such as the Famagusta District Administration (10/10) and the Ministry of Health (9.84) showed particularly high scores.
Mr. Papageorgiou spoke of "outdated mentalities" and called on the General Directors to take action. The PSC proceeded to fill 1,014 positions and conducted 840 oral examinations in 2024.
Regarding the profile of civil servants, 70% hold university degrees, while women make up 64% of the staff. The Public Service appears "aged", with only 7.2% of employees being between 18–34 years old.
