President: "We are ready for NATO" - Discussion on Article 42.7 in Nicosia

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that European leaders will discuss Article 42.7 of the EU Treaty during the Informal European Council in Nicosia on April 23-24. The article concerns mutual defense assistance between member states.
In statements to Thessaloniki Municipal Television, President Christodoulides emphasized that Cyprus is safe and not part of the regional crisis. He also mentioned that Cyprus is ready to join NATO, as soon as political conditions allow, referring to the lifting of Turkey's veto right.
President Christodoulides also referred to the role of the EU and the activation of Article 42.7, as well as the importance of the EU's strategic autonomy in matters of defense, energy and competitiveness.
Finally, he expressed his honor for being declared an Honorary Citizen of Thessaloniki, emphasizing the strong ties between Cyprus and Thessaloniki.
