Today, Parliament votes on lifting the immunity of 13 New Democracy (ND) MPs, following an investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) regarding the OPEKEPE scandal. The vote is expected to show whether the government respects institutions.

While the involved MPs and the party officially state they are in favor of lifting immunity to prove their innocence, ministers like Adonis Georgiadis have attacked the EPPO, questioning its objectivity.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, despite declaring support for the institution, hinted at "selective leaks" and the EPPO's involvement in internal political competition.

The government is accused of questioning the EPPO instead of cooperating to combat corruption. Failure to approve the lifting of immunity would show contempt for the rule of law and reinforce the belief in impunity for those in power.

Lifting immunity does not prejudge a conviction but allows for a full investigation of the case, which weighs heavily on the political system and European subsidies.
