President of Cyprus: EU-Latin America-Caribbean Relations a Priority

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, emphasized that strengthening relations between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean is a priority for the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council.
The statement was made during the presentation of credentials by the new Ambassador of Cuba, Rubén Pino Martínez.
President Christodoulides reiterated Cyprus' appreciation for Cuba's consistent support on the Cyprus issue, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. He also mentioned that the EU-Cuba Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement provides the basis for cooperation, including on human rights issues.
Referring to bilateral relations, he noted that Cyprus and Cuba have maintained diplomatic relations for 65 years, with Cuba being among the first countries to recognize the Republic of Cyprus.
The Cuban Ambassador expressed his readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
