Starmer to Christodoulides: No offensive operations from UK bases in Cyprus

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, had a telephone conversation with the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, regarding geopolitical developments.

Keir Starmer assured that the British bases in Cyprus will not be used for offensive operations against Iran. He also reiterated that the security of the Republic of Cyprus is fundamental to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Christodoulides informed Keir Starmer about the need to take a coordinated initiative to de-escalate the crisis, in cooperation with partners.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact.

President Christodoulides underlined Cyprus' role as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
