Stephanou: Initiatives Needed to Break Cyprus Impasse

AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stephanou emphasized the need for initiatives to break the deadlock in the Cyprus issue and resume negotiations.

Speaking at a memorial for the heroes of the independence struggles, Stephanou stated that the solution of a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation is the only feasible one, according to the UN Security Council resolutions.

He pointed out that adherence to this solution is more necessary than ever, as the Turkish side is promoting a two-state solution. The resumption of negotiations must start from where they left off, preserving the negotiating acquis and discussing outstanding issues on the basis of the Guterres Framework.
