AKEL's bill regarding the licensing and control of summer schools is expected to be submitted to the Plenary of the Parliament, within the framework of the 2025 amending law on Child Protection and Employment Centers.

AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtidis stated that the current framework is fragmented and requires the institutionalization of issues related to the control of establishments.

The bill aims to establish licensing and operating procedures for centers operating as summer schools, while providing social welfare services with more tools to control staff and the terms of establishment and operation.

It also provides for the possibility of suspending or revoking licenses, as well as prosecuting operation without a license.

Mr. Pasiourtidis expressed hope that the proposal would be adopted before the summer, while thanking the social welfare services for their cooperation.

It was clarified that it is not necessary for childcare staff to be teachers, but they should be deemed suitable, with emphasis on the safety and health of children.
