A heated debate unfolded in Parliament regarding an OPEKEPE document concerning the increase in livestock and grazing lands in Crete. The dispute was sparked by SYRIZA MP Alexandros Meikopoulos's reference to a 2020 document, signed by the then-president of OPEKEPE, Grigoris Varras, addressed to the then-minister, Makis Voridis.

According to Mr. Meikopoulos, the document proves that Mr. Voridis was aware of the increase in grazing lands in Crete and had proposals to curb the phenomenon. Mr. Meikopoulos accused Mr. Voridis of perjury and concealing documents.

Responding, Mr. Voridis disputed that he was the recipient of the document and emphasized that the specific document was not submitted to the investigative committee. He also argued that Mr. Varras's successor at OPEKEPE, Fanis Pappas, took measures to limit irregularities.

The confrontation continued with mutual accusations and recriminations between the two sides.
