Pierrakakis Meets with Island Mayors on Tax Reform

Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, held a digital meeting with mayors and regional governors of 19 remote islands regarding tax reform and VAT reduction.
The meeting also included Deputy Minister Nikos Papathanasis and Deputy Ministers Thanos Petralias and Giorgos Kotsiras. The discussion focused on reducing VAT on remote islands and gradually abolishing ENFIA in settlements with a population of less than 1,500.
Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized that the VAT reduction from 24% to 17% and from 13% to 9% is a recognition by the State towards the remote islands and contributes to addressing the demographic problem.
The mayors and regional governors expressed their satisfaction with the VAT reduction and raised issues such as the extension of the measure, development funds, the penetration of Airbnb, and the possibility of building houses for doctors and teachers.
The meeting was attended by, among others, regional governors Giorgos Hatzimarkos and Christodoulos Topsidis, as well as mayors Fotios Maggos, Maria Kamma-Alifeiri, and Evangelos Kottoros.
