EU Competitiveness in Focus at Ministerial Council

The Informal Ministerial Council on Tuesday focused on strengthening EU competitiveness. Discussions took place within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, at the Filoxenia Conference Center in Nicosia.
The meeting was attended by Ministers from the EU and countries participating in the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), as well as the European Commission. It served as a platform for exchanging views on promoting economic resilience, strategic autonomy, and sustainable and inclusive growth, while ensuring consumer protection and strengthening the Single Market.
The first plenary session focused on strengthening the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, examining long-standing structural challenges. The second session examined the Competitiveness Compass, one year after its launch.
The summit concluded with a working lunch, where the Consumer Agenda 2030 was discussed. Ministers also participated in a tour of Nicosia and an official dinner on Monday.
