Discussion Begins on Bill Addressing People with Disabilities

The Parliamentary Committee on Labour initiated a discussion on a bill that separates disability allowances from the Guaranteed Minimum Income and addresses people with disabilities without discrimination. The Committee Chairman, Andreas Kaukalias, stated that the discussion will continue next week.
The bill aims to modernize social benefits for the independent living of people with disabilities. Andreas Apostolou from DIKO mentioned that the bill separates disability allowances from the Guaranteed Minimum Income, giving prospects to many of our compatriots.
Giorgos Penintaex from DIPA argued that the bill moves towards eliminating discrimination and makes visible categories of our fellow citizens with 'invisible' disabilities. Themis Anthopoulou, President of KYSOA, stated that the bill is not perfect but improves the situation.
Dimitris Lambrianidis, President of OPAK, requested more responsible support from the state.
