The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Tasos Christofides, in an interview, referred to the legislation on foreign language undergraduate programs and the restrictions imposed.

Mr. Christofides expressed his satisfaction with the passing of the legislation, despite the restrictions imposed, stressing that offering foreign language programs is necessary for the internationalization of the university.

He mentioned that the requirement to offer the program simultaneously in Greek, as well as quotas, are restrictions not found in other European universities.

The Rector also expressed his concern about the lack of trust in the university community, as expressed in the abolition of interviews as a means of evaluating candidates.

Finally, Mr. Christofides commented on the references to the degradation of public schools, stressing that the admission procedures are distinct and that the University of Cyprus does not degrade public schools.
