Talat: Arrests of Greek Cypriots Linked to Cyprus Issue

Former Turkish Cypriot leader, Mehmet Ali Talat, stated that the recent arrests of Greek Cypriots in the occupied territories are directly linked to the resolution of the Cyprus issue. Speaking to Yeni Düzen, Talat said that these actions, including the arrest of Simon Aykut and real estate agents, demonstrate that property issues are an integral part of the Cyprus problem.
Talat criticized the prison sentences imposed on those arrested, calling them "unbalanced" and warned of a potential "legal war." He argued that the Greek Cypriot side has more opportunities for retaliation, given that the majority of buildings in the occupied territories are located on Greek Cypriot properties.
Mehmet Hasoğuller, an independent candidate for the "presidential elections", expressed concerns about the eroding trust in the occupation regime due to the arrests. The "Press Ethics Council" warned media outlets against using the term "espionage" in covering the case.
