Tasoulas: Democracy defeated terrorism in people's minds
The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Tasoulas, attended the annual memorial service for the victims of terrorism at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral. In his statement, he stressed that democracy defeated terrorism first in the minds of citizens and then in police operations.
Mr. Tasoulas described terrorism as a threat to democracy and freedom, emphasizing democracy's duty to fight with the weapons of justice and the rule of law. "The weapons of democracy are stronger than revolvers," he said, adding that words are more powerful than bullets and bombs.
In his speech, Mr. Tasoulas stressed the need for understanding and safeguarding freedom in order to defeat the "darkness of terrorism." He also referred to the memorial initiative of the Axarlian Association, stressing that the conscious decision not to forget ensures that there will be no future victims.
The President of the Republic warned of the danger of addiction to polarization, toxicity and division, which lead to bloodshed, calling for restraint.
The memorial service was held at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, as part of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Criminal Acts of Terrorism in Greece, at the initiative of the Solidarity Association for the Victims of Terrorism "Thanos Axarlian".
