Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar reiterated his support for a two-state solution in Cyprus following the trilateral meeting in New York with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

Mr. Tatar stated that he expects a 5+1 meeting before the end of the year and criticized President Christodoulides for his rhetoric at the UN General Assembly. He claimed that his proposals for cooperation on issues such as energy and the environment were not met with a response. He also reiterated his call for the opening of new crossing points in Mia Milia and Louroutzina.

Mr. Tatar emphasized that the two-state policy is supported by the Turkish National Assembly and should also be voted on in the "parliament" of the pseudo-state.

He mentioned that efforts to find a solution under the umbrella of a federation have ended and that cooperation is now important.
