The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (RTP), Tufan Erhürman, has extended a new invitation for a public televised debate to the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, citing the latter's recent statements.

Mr. Erhürman continues his contacts with former Turkish Cypriot leaders as part of his campaign for the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community. According to "Yeni Düzen", Mr. Erhürman described Mr. Tatar's tone as "extremely angry and aggressive" and reiterated his invitation for a televised discussion.

"It is important to be able to ask each other our questions in front of the people and answer each other. In a democracy, the people decide," said Mr. Erhürman.

In addition, Mr. Erhürman, accompanied by his wife, visited former Turkish Cypriot leader Derviş Eroğlu at his home. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the new period. Mr. Erhürman stressed the value of the experience of former leaders and stated that he would continue contacts with all sections of society. This followed meetings with Mehmet Ali Talat and Mustafa Akıncı.
