Turkey Installs Defense Systems in Occupied Territories

Turkey is reinforcing its military presence in the occupied territories by installing new surveillance and air defense systems. Reports indicate the transfer of additional equipment and the strengthening of existing systems.
Since last summer, the Korkut system from Aselsan, an air defense system designed to counter low-altitude aerial threats, including drone attacks, has been installed. Additionally, the Hisar anti-aircraft system was deployed in Kyrenia, with capabilities for detecting and destroying aerial vehicles.
The occupying forces maintain strong radar installations on the Pentadaktylos mountain range. The Vural electronic warfare system was deployed in April. Recently, the Şahın anti-aircraft system, equipped with a 40mm gun, was transferred.
All systems are connected to control centers in Turkey, including the new Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) navigation monitoring network. The Turkish Minister of Transport reported the completion of construction work on the three monitoring stations in Rizokarpaso, Livera, and Famagusta. The data will be transmitted to the Mersin Center.
The mechanism is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026.
