Turkish Media: Reinforcement of Turkish Forces in Occupied Territories
According to Turkish media reports, the number of Turkish military forces in the occupied territories is expected to reach 100,000. The upgrading of the commander of the Turkish forces to Lieutenant General is considered an indication of increased military presence.
As reported by the Turkish newspaper Aydinlik, the accumulation of troops from the USA, Israel, Germany, and Britain in southern Cyprus led to Turkey's mobilization. The Command of the Turkish Peace Forces of Cyprus has been upgraded from the level of Major General to that of Lieutenant General.
In August 2023, Major General Sebahattin Kılınç was appointed commander of the Turkish troops in Cyprus, and on August 5, 2025, he was promoted to Lieutenant General. Lieutenant General Sebahattin Kılınç is the first commander to serve with this rank in the 'trnc'.
