V. Palmas: Cyprus-Greece-Israel Relations and US Armaments

Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas addressed the possibility of creating a rapid reaction force with Greece and Israel, emphasizing that it has not been officially put up for discussion. He clarified that the relations of the Republic of Cyprus with Greece and Israel are at the highest level in recent years.

Regarding the upgrade of naval and air bases, Mr. Palmas stated that the preparation of architectural and technical plans by the American side for the Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos has already begun. For the Naval Base in Mari, the plans are expected to be completed within 2026, with construction work starting within 2027.

Regarding armaments, Cyprus is awaiting a new invitation from the US to examine up close weapons systems for the National Guard, including armored vehicles.
