Cyprus, US, and EU to Cooperate on Base Upgrades: V. Palmas

The Ministry of Defence of Cyprus is in the process of studies and contacts with the United States and the European Union to upgrade the "Andreas Papandreou" Air Base in Paphos and the "Evangelos Florakis" Naval Base in Mari.

The Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, told the Cyprus News Agency (CYPE) that the Government believes these projects can contribute to the enhanced role Cyprus plays in the region, due to recent developments.

He referred to the crisis in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as evacuations, humanitarian and peacekeeping missions. Mr. Palmas noted that they are already in talks with the Americans regarding the air base in Paphos and with the Europeans regarding the naval base in Mari.
