The Government remains fully committed to the effort to resume substantive negotiations on the Cyprus issue, based on the agreed framework of the United Nations and the principles of the European Union, stated the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis.

Mr. Vafeadis spoke at the Pomos Fallen Memorial, referring to Savvas Antoniou Kazalis, Andreas Orfanidis, Evangelos Roussos, Chrysanthos Dionysiou, Sotiris Ioannou and Georgios Michael. The memorial service was held at the Holy Church of Agios Efpsyhios in Pomos.

The Minister stressed that, on the initiative of the President, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General was appointed, and efforts continue to create the conditions for a credible negotiating process.

"For the State, respect for the memory of the fallen of Pomos is a daily responsibility and action. It is the constant effort to hand over to the next generations a reunited Cyprus, without occupying troops, without barbed wire, without missing persons. A Cyprus of peace, democracy and security for all its citizens," he said.

Finally, a memorial service was held for the finding of the bones of the missing Second Lieutenant Panagiotis Panagiotou.
