Weber (EPP): Turkish Position on Two-State Solution in Cyprus is Dangerous

The President of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, in an interview, described Turkey's position on a two-state solution in Cyprus as dangerous and unrealistic.
Mr. Weber emphasized that the European Union is actively involved in efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, under the guidance of the United Nations, and welcomed the appointment of Johannes Hahn as the EU's envoy for Cyprus.
Furthermore, he stated that the EPP condemns Turkey's aggressive behavior towards Cyprus and supports a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality.
Mr. Weber also referred to the dual representation of Cyprus in the EPP, through President Nikos Christodoulides and DISY President Annita Demetriou.
Finally, he stressed the need for a strong Europe, capable of defending itself and its allies, as well as addressing the authoritarian and populist wave.
